Zpacks is one of the most iconic names in ultralight backpacking and the brand that did more than almost any other to bring Dyneema Composite Fabric (DCF, originally known as Cuben Fiber) gear to the trail. It was founded in 2005 by Triple Crown thru-hiker Joe Valesko, who has walked well over 10,000 miles on the Appalachian, Pacific Crest and Continental Divide Trails and beyond. Joe started by hand-sewing his own gear simply because nothing on the market was light enough - and two decades later, with a team of more than a hundred, he still designs and tests every product himself, in-house in Florida. The Duplex is the icon of the line: a sub-600-gram trekking-pole DCF tent that has been voted the top ultralight shelter by Appalachian Trail thru-hikers and is a fixture on long trails worldwide. Alongside it, the Arc Haul is one of the lightest full-featured framed packs anywhere, thanks to its tensioned carbon-fibre arc frame. Built from DCF, Challenge ULTRA and ultralight Ventum nylon, Zpacks gear sits right at the top of the weight-, space- and warmth-to-performance rankings - premium kit for hikers who count every gram.
