DESCRIPTION
Zpacks Altaplex Pro Tent - soon in stock!!!
The Altaplex Pro is designed for hikers who love the spacious interior of the original Altaplex but want a more refined and comfortable shelter experience. Compared to the Classic version, the Pro adds several practical upgrades, including fully zippered storm doors, a peak vent for improved airflow and reduced condensation, Double-L mesh door zippers for easier access, and magnetic toggles for more convenient door management. These features make the tent easier to use in everyday trail conditions, provide better ventilation, and offer improved protection during windy or rainy weather. While the Pro version is slightly heavier, the weight increase is minimal compared to the added comfort and convenience. It is particularly well suited for taller hikers, long-distance backpackers, and anyone who spends significant time in their shelter and values usability over saving every last gram.
Spacious Interior for Taller Hikers
One of the biggest advantages of the Altaplex Pro is its impressive interior volume. The tall canopy design creates excellent headroom and usable living space, allowing hikers to sit upright comfortably and move around without constantly brushing against the walls. Keep in mind that ticker sleeping pads will reduce usable length due to the sloping walls.
This makes the Altaplex Pro particularly popular among taller hikers, as well as anyone who appreciates extra space above their sleeping bag and wants to minimize contact with condensation on the tent walls. Keep in mind that, as with any tent featuring sloped walls, thicker sleeping pads, especially high-profile inflatable winter pads will slightly reduce the usable interior length and headroom. Even so, the Altaplex Pro remains one of the most spacious ultralight solo shelters available in its weight class.
Superior Ventilation and Weather Protection
The integrated peak vent works together with perimeter mesh ventilation to maximize airflow throughout the shelter. During warm nights, both storm doors can be rolled back independently and secured with magnetic toggles to create an open, airy shelter with panoramic views.
When weather conditions deteriorate, simply close one or both zippered storm doors for full 360-degree protection from wind and rain. The recessed bathtub floor and enclosed mesh interior help keep you dry and protected even in challenging conditions.
Simple Trekking Pole Setup
The Altaplex Pro pitches quickly using a single trekking pole adjusted to approximately 56–58 inches (142–147 cm). Hikers whose trekking poles do not extend to this height can easily use a Trekking Pole Jack, a dedicated Carbon 58-inch Tent Pole, or a Carbon Fiber Staff to achieve the proper setup height.
Who Is the Altaplex Pro For?
The Altaplex Pro is ideal for backpackers who want maximum comfort from an ultralight solo shelter. It is particularly well suited for taller hikers, long-distance thru-hikers, and anyone who values interior space, improved ventilation, and user-friendly features. Compared to the Altaplex Classic, the Pro version offers a more comfortable and convenient camping experience, making it the preferred choice for hikers who are willing to carry a few extra grams in exchange for enhanced livability on trail.
MATERIAL: Dyneema® Composite Fabric
Choose between two fabric configurations to match your priorities:
- Lite Version
Designed for hikers who want to minimize pack weight, the Lite version features a proven 0.55 oz/sqyd DCF canopy paired with a 0.75 oz/sqyd DCF floor. This combination delivers excellent weather protection while pushing the boundaries of ultralight performance. -
Standard Version
For those seeking increased durability and improved opacity, the Standard version uses a stronger 0.75 oz/sqyd DCF canopy and a robust 1.0 oz/sqyd DCF floor. The heavier fabric provides additional abrasion resistance and enhanced longevity, making it an excellent choice for frequent use and demanding conditions.
Guylines: 1.6 mm Z-Line Guylines with LineLoc V adjusters
Dyneema® Composite Fabric has several advantages over other materials:
- High strength to weight ratio – the material can handle high wind force and does not tear easily.
- Chemical free, PFC free
- Waterproof – there is no DWR or coating to worry about wearing out. The material will not absorb significant water that will add water weight to your pack
- Stretch-free – the tent will stay taut all night. Nylon material by comparison can stretch and sag, especially if it gets wet.
- Taped seams – our seams are sewn for strength then taped water tight. The tie outs have bonded reinforcements for high strength. No seam sealing will be necessary!
- Easily repairable – Any damage can easily be fixed in the field with our Dyneema® Composite Fabric Repair Tape.
- This tent is semi-transparent. In bright sunlight, a fuzzy silhouette of a person sitting inside the tent would be visible, but you cannot see any details. It has a suitable amount of privacy for changing clothes.
- In lower light (such as in the evening or at night), you cannot see through at all. Another nice thing about this material is that you can see the outlines of trees and your surroundings for a more immersed outdoor experience.
TOTAL WEIGHT: 412 g | 14.5 oz Olive and Blue with included guy lines, sewn in linelocs, taped seams, and a stuff sack.
A piece of repair tape and two spare zipper sliders (zipper slider are field repairable) are included with each tent.
