About Glacial Gear
Glacial Gear is a premium Merino wool outdoor gear manufacturer founded by Shane and Shereen Petersen. During Shane's time on the Ice Age National Scenic Trail, he realized traditional trail towels were too heavy, slow-drying, and bulky. The solution became the Trail Rag: a lightweight, clip-on Merino wool towel that handles sweat, grime, and hot cookware while staying fresh for weeks without washing. What started as a passion project in a converted spare room in Illinois has grown into a dedicated professional workspace based in upstate South Carolina near the Blue Ridge Mountains.
