DESCRIPTION

Hyperlite Mountain Gear Crux 40 - is a ski pack designed with ski legend Cody Townsend. This 40L pack is designed to seamlessly meet the demands of climbing and skiing in challenging terrains. Tailored for ski mountaineering, it is equally adept for ski touring and professional use. Weighing only 1250g in the Medium size, its standout feature is a zippered back panel entry, reducing the risk of lost gear on challenging pitches.

Key features include internal avalanche tool pockets, front and rear haul loops, and a removable hip belt with a gear loop and zippered pocket. The pack also incorporates a drawstring extension collar with a removable lid, low-profile side pockets, and accommodates both A-frame and diagonal ski carry. External and zippered pockets, including a hip belt pocket and lid pocket, enhance organization.

Constructed with exceptionally durable 400D Fully Woven Dyneema® construction that stands up to the harshest alpine conditions. The fully woven Dyneema offers superior puncture and abrasion resistance compared to standard Dyneema Composite Fabrics, making it one of the most durable ultralight ski packs available. You can confidently focus on technical climbs and descents knowing your pack won't fail in demanding terrain.

With dual ice axe pick pockets, reflective bungees, removable aluminum stays, and daisy chains, the Crux is a versatile choice. The pack is compatible with accessories such as Pods, Stuff Sacks, and Hyperlite Mountain Gear Removable Hip Belts. It includes a removable floating lid, adding adaptability to specific needs. The Hyperlite Mountain Gear Crux stands out as an exceptional option for those seeking a reliable and versatile ski mountaineering pack.

FAQs

Is the Crux 40 actually waterproof?

The Crux 40 is water-resistant but not fully waterproof. While the Dyneema Composite Fabric effectively repels water in most conditions, the bottom panel can allow moisture to seep through if the pack sits on wet snow or ground for extended periods. The Crux 40 is not designed as a dry bag, so Hyperlite Mountain Gear recommends using waterproof stuff sacks inside the pack for double protection of critical gear like insulated layers, electronics, and sleeping bags during multi-day ski mountaineering trips.

How durable is the Dyneema material?

The Crux 40 features exceptionally durable 400D Fully Woven Dyneema®construction that stands up to the harshest alpine conditions. This exclusive material is specifically engineered to withstand sharp ski edges, crampon points, ice tools, and rugged mountaineering use without tearing or abrading. The fully woven Dyneema offers superior puncture and abrasion resistance compared to standard Dyneema Composite Fabrics, making it one of the most durable ultralight ski packs available.

Can it carry skis diagonally or just A-frame?

The Crux 40 supports both A-frame and diagonal ski carry. For diagonal carry, you'll need to purchase the optional Diagonal Ski Carry Kit.
Important: When using diagonal carry, the front Dyneema Stretch Mesh UL pocket becomes unusable, as the skis block access to it.

How does it compare to the Prism 40?

The Crux 40 is essentially the Prism 40 reimagined for skiers who need the same technical capability but with ski-specific features. It's heavier because of the back panel zipper engineering and ski-focused additions, but these features are essential for ski mountaineering objectives where transitions matter.
