The classic, perfected. The Gossamer Gear The One is the tent that defined single-wall ultralight shelters – a thru-hiker favourite for years, now rebuilt around Gossamer Gear's own ClearSkies™ fabric, smarter ventilation and the new Fritsch Hitch guyline system. Two trekking poles, six stakes, and you have a full storm-worthy home weighing just 558 g / 19.68 oz.
This is the shelter reviewers keep coming back to when they talk about value in ultralight: a palace-sized interior for one, a 124.5 cm peak that lets you actually sit up, and a stuff size of just 30.5 cm (12") that disappears inside your pack. The latest generation keeps the proven A-frame geometry and elevates everything else – 35% stronger fabric, 2.35× the water resistance, and a pitch that's more intuitive than ever.
Custom 15D recycled Robic canopy with a 20D dope-dyed ripstop grid and an advanced SIL/PU coating (1200 mm), rated to a 4,923 mm hydrostatic head – above the typical three-season tent and nearly at the 5,000 mm mountaineering benchmark. 35% stronger and 2.35× more water resistant than the previous Gossamer Gear fabric, at the same weight.
Retractable ridge vents tackle the single-wall elephant in the shelter: condensation. Open them for airflow on calm nights, or batten down the hatches with velcro stays when the weather turns torrential.
A new integrated guyline system that makes the perfect pitch nearly automatic – and pulls the bathtub floor taut to maximise every centimetre of precious interior space. Highly adjustable for uneven terrain.
Factory-taped seams, reinforced tie-out patches, reflective zipper pulls and colourful reflective guylines, interior mesh pocket with clothesline loop, and snug loops that secure the walls to the poles to minimise wind disturbance. No forever chemicals anywhere in the fabric.
Trekking pole tent. The One pitches with two trekking poles (or the optional Pole Set, sold separately) at a recommended height of 125 cm. Poles are not included – if you hike with them anyway, your shelter's structure weighs nothing extra.

Do I need trekking poles to set up The One?
Yes. The One is a trekking pole tent and requires two trekking poles or a dedicated pole set at a recommended height of 125 cm. No poles are included – we offer trekking poles and the dedicated Pole Set separately.
How does The One handle condensation?
Single-wall shelters will always experience some condensation. The One addresses it with retractable ridge vents plus floor-level mesh at both ends for cross-ventilation. Open the vents on calm nights for airflow, or use the velcro stays to seal things up in heavy weather.
What is ClearSkies™ fabric?
Gossamer Gear's in-house shelter fabric: PFAS-free 15D recycled Robic nylon woven with a 20D dope-dyed ripstop grid for durability, UV stability and tear resistance at very low weight. An advanced silicone/PU coating (1200 mm) seals it completely and makes it highly hydrophobic, so morning dew shakes straight off. The result is a 4,923 mm hydrostatic head – above the average three-season tent and nearly at the 5,000 mm mountaineering benchmark, with 2.35× the water resistance of previous Gossamer Gear fabrics.
Will The One fit a tall person comfortably?
With a 49" (124.5 cm) peak interior height, The One provides comfortable headroom for the average 6-foot (183 cm) hiker – noticeably more than most solo trekking pole shelters. The average sit height of a 6' person is 36–39"; for a personalised fit check, grab a tape measure and check your own seated height.
How waterproof is The One in heavy rain?
ClearSkies™ delivers nearly 5,000 mm of water resistance, factory-taped seams seal every stitch line, the fly door uses a water-repellent YKK AquaGuard® zipper, and reinforced tie-out patches hold firm under load. Pitch an end into the wind and it's built to handle serious weather.
What's included with The One?
The shelter, six aluminium stakes, two static guylines, a clothesline and stuff sacks for the tent and stakes. Trekking poles or the Pole Set are sold separately.
