DESCRIPTION
The Enlightened Equipment Torrid Apex Jacket Men's is an ultralight synthetic insulated hooded jacket and a long-time favorite of long-distance backpackers and thru-hikers. Starting at just 215 g (7.6 oz), it combines warmth, wind protection and moisture resistance in a minimalist design – and unlike a down jacket, it stays warm even when damp.
Synthetic insulation that keeps working in wet weather
The Torrid is built with 2 oz/yd² (68 g/m²) CLIMASHIELD™ APEX continuous-filament synthetic insulation. It gives you the warmth and packability you would expect from down, with the better all-weather performance of synthetic fill: it keeps its warmth and breathability when damp, dries quickly, packs small and is easy to wash. That makes it the go-to insulating layer for backpackers who want something more weather-resistant than a down jacket – for chilly days, frosty nights in camp and humid shoulder-season trips.
The smooth ultralight nylon shell blocks the wind and has a PFC-free DWR finish that sheds light drizzle, fog and snow.
Designed for backpacking – and for your sleep system
Every detail is kept to the essentials to save weight. Raglan sleeves sit comfortably under pack straps and give you a full range of motion. The insulated hood follows your head movement and cinches with a shock cord. A shock-cord waist adjustment (hidden in the pocket) and elastic cuffs seal in warmth, so the jacket also works great as part of an ultralight quilt sleep system. The full-length front zipper lets you vent while moving, and a grosgrain zipper garage keeps the zipper off your chin. Two zippered, insulated hand-warmer pockets keep your small essentials secure.
The cut is slightly oversized to fit over other layers, yet the jacket still packs down small for the trail – a true 3-season layer with an unbeatable warmth-to-weight ratio.
