Durston Iceline Trekking Poles – Second Generation (Gen 2) take one of the most innovative ultralight trekking pole designs even further. Weighing just 133 g per pole without straps, they remain the world's lightest three-piece adjustable trekking poles, combining remarkable strength, stiffness and reliability with an exceptionally low weight. Their unique three-section construction packs down to just 49 cm, while the external adjustment system provides a versatile length range of 95–127 cm.

What's Improved in the Second Generation?

The second-generation Durston Iceline Trekking Poles introduce several refinements focused on greater strength, durability and comfort without compromising their ultralight performance. The updated design features a new custom-shaped ergonomic grip, a more rugged and durable tip construction, and an upgraded Quick Connect mechanism made with high-strength 7075 aluminum alloy. Further structural improvements increase overall strength and reliability, particularly at the lower connection. Despite these upgrades, the poles are now lighter, preserving the effortless feel that made the original Iceline so popular.

The innovative Iceline design eliminates the need for two separate adjustment mechanisms commonly found on traditional three-piece trekking poles. Instead, it combines a single reliable external lever lock with a lightweight Quick Connect lower section. This approach reduces unnecessary weight, minimizes potential points of failure and makes adjusting pole length faster and easier.

During regular hiking, the Iceline poles function like conventional two-section poles. When it's time to pack them away, the lower section can be disconnected, allowing the poles to collapse to a compact 49 cm. This makes them particularly convenient for ultralight backpacking, thru-hiking, fastpacking and travel.

Strength is another defining characteristic of the Iceline poles. They are constructed from premium high-modulus carbon fiber with larger-diameter tubing measuring 18 mm at the upper section and 16 mm at both the middle and lower sections. Unlike many ultralight trekking poles that use thinner 12 mm lower sections, the Iceline design maintains a stronger 16 mm diameter all the way to the tip, helping reduce flex and the risk of breakage.

The second generation builds on this robust construction with a reinforced Quick Connect system and improved tip design. The tips are replaceable, allowing you to easily replace the tip or the entire lower pole section when worn out. This helps extend the lifespan of the trekking poles without the need to replace the entire pole. The connection incorporates an O-ring to minimize rattling and ensure quiet operation on the trail. The external lever lock uses durable aluminum components and is easier to adjust, maintain and service than conventional internal twist-lock mechanisms.

Custom manufactured in Austria by Komperdell, the Durston Iceline poles combine premium carbon fiber, carefully engineered aluminum hardware and a minimalist matte finish that saves additional weight. Every component has been selected to maximize performance while eliminating unnecessary grams.

The poles feature a comfortable EVA foam grip, durable carbide tips and a lightweight 5 g Dyneema stuff sack made from repurposed fabric offcuts from Durston's premium Dyneema tents. A pair of larger baskets is also included for softer surfaces such as sand and snow.

Designed for hikers who prioritize low weight, efficiency and dependable performance, the Iceline Gen 2 poles are ideal for long-distance trails, mountain trekking and ultralight adventures. They are also compatible with Durston X-Mid trekking pole tents, making them a natural choice for hikers using an ultralight shelter system.

Choose between two versions: the minimalist strapless version for maximum weight savings or the version with wrist straps for additional support and more efficient power transfer while hiking. Please note that wrist straps cannot be added later to the strapless version.
