Durston Kakwa 55 sizes

Size Guide: Durston Kakwa 55

Torso Fit (Key Measurement):

Measure from the base of your neck (C7 vertebra) to the top of your hips (iliac crest). For accuracy, we recommend having a friend help you measure 2–3 times. How to measure

Size Torso Length
Small 38–46 cm (15–18")
Medium 43–51 cm (17–20")
Large 48–56 cm (19–22")

Height (Secondary Reference):

If you are unsure of your torso measurement, your height can serve as a helpful backup:

  • 165–173 cm (5'5" – 5'8") → Usually Small
  • 173–180 cm (5'8" – 5'11") → Usually Medium
  • 180–187 cm (5'11" – 6'2") → Usually Large

Between Sizes?

If you fall into two categories, choose the size you are "deeper" into. If you are exactly in the middle, size up. A slightly large pack can still transfer weight effectively, whereas a pack that is too small cannot.

Hipbelt Sizing:

Choose the hipbelt that best encompasses your hip circumference (where you will actually wear the hipbelt). We recommend:

Hipbelt Size Hip Circumference
S/M 76–96 cm (29" – 38")
M/L 86–106 cm (33" – 42")

These hipbelts can expand larger than this, but it is ideal if your hip measurement is in these ranges.

Which one should I choose?

If you fit into both ranges, consider these factors:

Benefits of a Larger Belt:

Better "wrap" around the iliac crest for comfort and easier access to hipbelt pockets (they will sit further forward).

Benefits of a Smaller Belt:

More room to cinch the pack tighter. If you expect to lose weight on a long-distance thru-hike, the smaller belt prevents the buckle from "bottoming out."

Recommendation:

Choose the size where your hip measurement falls closest to the center of the range.

How to Measure Your Torso Length:

  1. Tilt your head slightly forward to locate the bony bump at the base of your neck (C7 vertebra)
  2. Place your hands on your hips to feel your iliac crest (the top of your hip bones)
  3. Have someone measure from the C7 vertebra down along the curve of your spine to the point where an imaginary line crosses between your thumbs
  4. Repeat 2–3 times for accuracy
