The founder Ronald Moak who has hiked long-distance treks AT, CDT and PCT, along with many others, named his company Six Moon Designs with the spirit of the long hike in mind. The gear reflects the ability to withstand hikes lasting for six months, or six cycles of the moon.

About Six Moon Designs
Six Moon Designs is one of the original ultralight cottage brands. Founded in Oregon in 2002 by thru-hiker Ron "Fallingwater" Moak - who left a 20-year software career after hand-making his own gear for the Pacific Crest Trail - the company built its reputation on a simple idea: lightweight, durable and genuinely affordable shelters. Their signature is the trekking-pole-supported single-wall shelter, which drops the weight of dedicated tent poles by using the hiking poles you already carry. Six Moon Designs was also among the very first brands to build shelters from Dyneema Composite Fabric, back in 2008, and the name itself nods to the six cycles of the moon it takes to complete a long thru-hike.
