Enlightened Equipment is one of the brands that made the ultralight quilt mainstream. Founder Tim Marshall started sewing quilts by himself in his basement in Winona, Minnesota in 2007; today the company employs more than 50 people in a 50,000 square-foot facility and makes some of the most popular quilts on the trail. The idea is simple but clever: a quilt is a sleeping bag without the crushed, wasted insulation underneath you, which means a better warmth-to-weight ratio, more versatility, and a more natural sleep - especially for side sleepers. The flagship Revelation opens flat as a blanket or cinches closed with its adjustable foot box, the Enigma adds a fully sewn foot box for maximum warmth, and the two-person Accomplice covers couples.
